OUR WHY

Coal and Canary was started as a hobby between two best friends who were simply learning a fun new hobby together. Amanda started making candles in her kitchen with her best friend in 2014 as a fun hobby and distraction while she was recovering after suffering a near death experience, an event that ended up changing her life forever.

Because C&C was founded by a woman as well as a member of the LGBTQI2S+* community, Coal and Canary has created both the space and the blueprint for these particular minority groups from the beginning. Coal and Canary strives to invite others into this space and to connect with both customers and other business owners who also identify within these groups, in order to give everyone a seat at the table.

Today, Coal and Canary's mission is to bring happiness and joy into peoples lives while providing an incredible customer experience as well as an extremely high quality, hand poured product.

OUR PRODUCT

Coal and Canary loves making candles,

but also loves making friends! We are in the business of fun and happen to make

deliciously scented candles second.

Coal and Canary creates hand-poured luxury wood wick candles for every occasion – and for everyday. Our candles are made only with the highest quality vegan soy and vegetable wax blend and true to scent fragrance oils. All of our candles feature an eco-friendly, clean-burning, wood wick made from FSC Certified Wood. Each candle is hand poured with the highest attention to detail and lovingly housed in a beautiful re-usable glass vessel featuring our logo.

OUR NAME

The name Coal and Canary is based on the stories of when miners would bring canaries down to test the air quality of mines. It's a positive spin on the story though! As our ingredients are better for you and the air, so the canary survives and thrives (which is why

there are two canaries in the logo!).
